Explanation

What is NotTaxAdvice?

NotTaxAdvice is an educational simulator.

NotTaxAdvice is designed to explain how retirement tax systems behave not to provide advice, recommendations, or predictions.

Most tax software focuses on outputs:

a number, a result, a projected savings figure.

What’s often missing is the reason that number exists in the first place.

NotTaxAdvice exists to solve that specific problem.

The problem it addresses

In traditional tax tools:

+ The numbers are calculated correctly

+ The software technically works

+ But the logic that produced the result is hidden

Users are shown what happened without understanding why it happened.

When outcomes change year to year, the cause is often unclear — leaving people unsure what actually mattered or what to watch next.

How this system is different

NotTaxAdvice is built to make tax mechanics inspectable.

Instead of optimizing for a single recommendation, it focuses on how systems interact over time, including:

+ Roth conversions and ordinary income

+ Marginal tax brackets and “room left”

+ Medicare IRMAA thresholds

+ Capital gains stacking

+ Required minimum distributions (RMDs)

Each explanation is grounded in deterministic rules and explicit assumptions, so users can see how outcomes are produced step by step.

What this tool does not do

NotTaxAdvice does not provide tax advice.

It does not replace a CPA or financial advisor.

It does not predict future tax law, market returns, or personal outcomes.

Those decisions remain human — and contextual.

What it does provide

Instead, NotTaxAdvice shows how retirement tax systems behave under clearly stated conditions.

By making the mechanics visible, users can:

+ Understand what actually changed

+ Identify which thresholds were crossed

+ See which interactions mattered

+ Ask better, more informed questions of their professionals

The goal isn’t to tell you what to do.

The goal is to help you understand what’s happening.
